WESLEY UNIVERSITY ONDO APPOINTS NEW VICE-CHANCELLOR!

Wesley University Ondo has appointed a new Vice-Chancellor in the person of Professor Sunday Ndubueze Ukachukwu B.Sc. Agric, M.Sc. Agric, PhD. as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University. He took over from Professor Williams O. Olu-Aderounmu, who acted in the capacity from August 2016-June, 2018. Professor Ukachukwu, a specialist in Animal Science (with bias in Nutrition and Biochemistry) emerged after rigorous but painstaking selection and recruitment process by the University’s Governing Council in consultation with the Board of Trustees. He is an alumnus of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he obtained a Bachelor of Agriculture Degree in Animal Science (1987), Masters Degree in Animal Science (Animal Nutrition and Biochemistry (1990) and Ph.D. (Animal Nutrition and Biochemistry) in 2000.

Professor Ukachukwu started his working career in 1990 at Chisam Food Industry Limited, Nsukka/Lagos but switched to academics in 1993 with a Part-time teaching appointment with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.  He joined the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, in 1994 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2008.

As a versatile academic and administrator, Prof. Ukachukwu has appreciable Academic Leadership Distinctions and Awards. He had worked in various units and served in over thirty committees at the University, College and Departmental levels, including working at various times as Head of Department, Dean and as Council member.  He is a member of numerous professional bodies including British Society of Animal Science, Feed and Nutrition Network of Greenhouse Gas and Animal Agriculture, Nigeria Institute of Animal Science, Nigerian Society of Animal Production, Animal Science Association of Nigeria and Agricultural Society of Nigeria. As part of his community service, the Professor of Animal Science is a Lay Preacher in Methodist Church Nigeria and a member of Scripture Union Nigeria, among others. He is married with four children.
