Ondo State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, has called the Christian clerics in Nigeria supports the position of government at all levels against corruption in the country. He made the call on Tuesday, June 3, 2019 in his speech as the special guest of honour at the 2019 Methodist Bishops Conference held at Wesley University, Ondo.
The governor said there was a need for clerics to always live above board to earn the respect of the people and favour of God. He emphasized that the clerics of Methodist Church in particular and all Christian denomination in the country have a pivotal role to play toward the social and economic sound country.
“The success of any administration is dependent on the readiness of the servants of God in the country to be frank and supportive to all good strides of the government. It is my expectation that our fathers in the Lord in Methodist Church tell us the truth and support our programmes especially with reference to anti-graft”.
“While the politicians are elected, the clerics being anointed ones must play the role of the servants of God and servants of the people. We are elected, but yours is clear that you can’t be afraid of any terrestrial interference. I know you are bold at all time to speak truth to power”.
He said, “taking a closer look at the nature of our obligatory intervention, it has complimentary. We can’t continue to condemn each other, we are human,we have our fallibility. All of us are humans, we strive to be like Christ.
In his remark, the prelate of Methodist Church, Reverend Uche Kalu said that the clerics in the mission will always support the good programmes of the government. The man of said there is no way the clerics in the mission would not support government anti-corruption war because it is war between justice and injustice.
He appreciated the governor for attending the programme despite his tight schedule saying all Methodist faithful are praying for the success of all tiers of government.
“Methodists are known for development in all facets of life. We lead education to Nigeria and that is why we are investing in tertiary education through the establishment of Wesley University. The institution is one of the ways we support infrastructural and manpower development programmes of the government”.
