PROFESSOR S. N. UKACHUKWU RESUMES AS THE SECOND SUBSTANTIVE VICE-CHANCELLOR OF WESLEY UNIVERSITY ONDO

THE INAUGURAL ADDRESS PRESENTED TO THE UNIVERSITY BY THE VICE-CHANCELLOR, WESLEY UNIVERSITY ONDO

There is a new dawn in Wesley University, Ondo, with the assumption of office by Professor Sunday Ndubueze Ukachukwu B.Sc., M.Sc. Agric, PhD. as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.

To mark his resumption, the University community gathered on Monday, 16th July, 2018 at High Chief Sir. Akingbule Lecture Theatre, in a welcoming ceremony, to take his inaugural address and admit the new Vice-Chancellor into the Wesley University Family.

In his address to the University Community on the occasion, Professor Ukachukwu commended the Governing Council of the University for undertaking a transparent process that led to his emergence as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution. He extended his appreciation to the University’s Chancellor, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, CFR, Jilo III, the Osemawe and Paramount Ruler of Ondo Kingdom, the Chairman, Sir Demola Aladekomo and members of the Board of Trustees, the Pro-Chancellor, Very Rev. Prof. Chimaobi N. Madubuike and members of the Governing Council,  the Principal Officers, Staff and Students of Wesley University Ondo, for their contributions to the successful transition.

The Professor took time to appreciate the enormous efforts of his predecessors in ensuring tremendous growth in the university, in spite of the teething problems that bedeviled the university.

Professor Ukachukwu stated that his priority would be to ensure that the staff work as a team, in order to expand the infrastructure and programmes of the University, noting that strategies would be devised to make the University visible to both parents and intending students.

In the same vein, the Vice- Chancellor posited that sources of funding for the University would be extended and intensified; therefore, short, medium and long term strategies would be put in place, to support the efforts of the Proprietors towards boosting the financial base of the University.

He enumerated what he believed would enable his administration achieve the vision it has for the University which included, among others,

  • Consolidation of existing programmes and to pursue aggressive expansion of programmes and infrastructure, leading to high quality education and increase in student enrollment.
  • Creation of a secure and financially self-sustaining global university through innovative internally generated revenue sources, external partnerships, collaborations and business links
  • Promotion of academic environment that is conducive enough to attract and foster highest possible quality staff and students, unassailably committed to excellence, and inspire the requisite confidence and ambition that enable them attain their full potentials.

In conclusion, the Vice-Chancellor stated clearly that he fully understood the enormity of the task before him and urged staff and students to lay all past misgivings aside and join hands as a team under his stewardship, to build a great institution. According to him, there will be no kind of division, camps or distinctions in gender or ethnicity; for the price for success is hard-work, determination to accomplish the jobs at hand and the wisdom to learn from the errors of others, and teamwork is the key to success in most realms of life and business.”

Representatives of the University Community, including students and staff responded warmly to the new Vice-Chancellor. In the various comments, the Wesleyans not only expressed joy at the assumption of office but pledged their unalloyed support to the administration and wished Professor Ukachukwu every good success during his tenure.

The Registrar, Mrs. Chioma C. Obasi in a vote of thanks on behalf of other principal officers, staff and students, appreciated the goodwill of the Vice-Chancellor and prayed for the University to achieve success in its set goals.
